As Vice President/General Manager of an international specialty chemical company more than doubled revenues and profits in two years and took the company into new profitable areas by the addition of proprietary manufacturing equipment. Founded a Tucson based martial arts/self defense school which enjoyed positive cash flow within the first year of operation.
Increased revenues by 45% via the introduction of existing technologies into new markets and new technologies into existing markets. Successfully implemented the Stage-Gate project process. Identified new market opportunities, including the replacement of asbestos, which more than doubled the profitability of a mature product line. Built a global distributor operation whose focus was marketing to the optics, aerospace, pharmaceutical and other specialty industries.
Developed a program of technology swapping with several off-shore firms which enhanced ROI and enabled entrance into new end-use areas.
In the roles of Director of Worldwide Business Development and Consultant, identified and successfully negotiated domestic and off-shore acquisitions and joint ventures which were strategic to their respective businesses.
Designed and led the company's multi-year global planning process which included market /competitive analysis and the development of strategies and their implementation.
Conducted numerous seminars/workshops on planning, business development, marketing and sales related subjects at the University of Wisconsin, University of Missouri as well as industry trade associations and major customers. Alan has a BS in Chemistry from New York University and an MBA in Marketing Management from Pace University. He served as a company commander (Captain) in the United States Army, Infantry (Airborne). He holds a 4th degree Black Belt in Chung do Kwan Tae Kwon Do and is certified as a senior self-defense instructor (Krav Maga / KAPAP) which he has, and continues to teach to law enforcement, military and civilians. Alan is a past president of the Commercial Development & Marketing Association and Sales & Marketing Association-Southern Wisconsin. Alan is active in the Tucson community serving on the boards of two local companies as well as a fundraising organization and as a court advocate, crisis intervention responder, and member of the Community Justice Board - Pima County Attorney's Office.
